Minibus Service

For people living in Ireby and Uldale, Westward (includes Rosley and Curthwaite), Boltons, Caldbeck (includes Hesket Newmarket), Sebergham (includes Welton), Castle Sowerby and Mungrisdale parishes.

The Northern Fells Minibus is for anyone of any age who does not have their own transport, has limited access to shared transport, cannot drive their own cars temporarily, or needs disabled access.

 

NFG Minibus

The Minibus...

  • Is for passengers of all ages without their own transport. Children under 11 years need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • Has eight passenger seats and a lift for wheelchair or walking access.
  • Operates Monday to Friday, 9 am - 5 p.m.: Volunteer drivers (26 at present).
  • Operates Saturdays to take young people into town or for other special requests by people of any age.
  • Operates on ‘first come, first served’ basis, but wheelchair dependent passengers usually have priority as they cannot use the alternative of the Cumbria County Council Voluntary Car Service.
  • is available for Evening and Weekend Outings IF a voluntary driver is available and willing!

The Minibus can take you:

  • to the Doctor, Dentist, Clinic, or to visit friends in Hospital or in a Home.
  • on any journey not possible by public transport.
  • to village activities, to visit friends, or to get home after an after-school activity.
  • to take you to relieve a carer so that they can go out.
  • shopping if you cannot carry your shopping to a service bus or are not on a bus route.
  • ...and anywhere else you want to go and we can manage to take you.

 

Fares

Pay only for the miles you actually travel, and only the direct mileage even if you are taken by another route due to picking up another passenger.

  • Under 6: no charge
  • 6 – 16 (18 if still in full time education): 20p a mile
  • Adult: 30p a mile

Minimum fare: 50p

Evening and Weekend Outings

The Minibus is also available for outings for up to eight passengers in the evening and on Sundays IF a voluntary driver is available and willing. One passenger can be a wheelchair passenger. A registered voluntary driver must drive the vehicle. Telephone Transport Co-ordinator for details.

Evening and Weekend Outing fares: 60 pence per mile divided among the number of passengers for all miles driven from Base back to Base.
