Tai Chi

In January 2003 a Tai Chi class, with teacher Lesley Relph, started at Caldbeck with each class followed by tea and biscuits provided by Lend a Hand Group volunteers. Originally it was intended that the classes would be held fortnightly, but, such was their popularity that Lesley agreed to have them weekly and the class was moved to Caldbeck Parish Hall which provided more room for the well-attended sessions. The classes are now held in the Oak Room at Caldbeck Parish Hall on Wednesdays from 10.30 to 11.30am.

About fourteen people attend on a regular basis, most of whom are in the over 55 age group and the sessions have proved to be eagerly anticipated social events, as well as being beneficial to all concerned. Lesley keeps the class working hard, varying the exercises and cheerfully demonstrating trickier moves until everyone gets the hang of things .After warm up exercises the class generally proceeds with Shibashi, with moves such as “separate the clouds”, “paint the rainbow”, “gazing at the moon” and “repulse monkey”! Each session winds down with a short period of meditation, followed by a reviving cup of tea..
